Mit passendem PCMCIA-Adapter auch am Notebook lesbar. Der Unterschied zwischen CompactFlash-Karten Typ I und Typ II ist rein äußerlich. Typ I 3,3mm und Typ II 5mm dick. Grund hierfür: größerer Platzbedarf höherer Speicherkapazitäten. Zusätzlich existieren bei Typ II-Karten zwei verschiedene Arten: wie bei Typ I mit Flash-Speicher, sowie Karten mit Mini-Festplatte (IBM Microdrive).
